Welcome to our Plymouth to Lands End cycling holiday.  This is a six day, seven night cycling holiday, starting in Plymouth, on Devon’s South Coast, and finishing at the Westerly tip of England, Lands End.  Total distance of 217 miles.

On this holiday you will cycle along quiet country lanes and cycle paths, stopping at quaint English villages and seaside harbours.  You will enjoy spectacular views of the Cornish coast, green rolling hills, moorland and golden beaches.  You will stay overnight in B&B accommodation in villages and towns of character and history.

Day 1:  Arrival in Plymouth, on the South coast of Britain

A historic naval city, Plymouth is the port from which Francis Drake set sail for the new world.  We can assist you in making arrangements to arrive by train, or to advise you on car parking.

Day2:  Plymouth to Okehampton (40 miles)

Starting from Plymouth Hoe, you head along the Plym Valley cycle route into Dartmoor National Park, the largest and wildest area of countryside in Southern England.  You will pass the historic and beautiful town of Tavistock, situated on the river Tavy.

You follow the Granite way, a traffic free cycle route to your overnight accommodation in Okehampton, where you can explore a Castle and the 15th century Chapel of St. James.

Day 3: Okeheampton to Bude (37 miles)

Cycling across the undulating Devon countryside you will pass the villages of Hatherleigh, the smallest town in Devon, and Holsworthy, a historic market town, mentioned in The Domesday book.  Your overnight accommodation is in Bude, situated on the sandy beaches of the North Cornwall Coast.  In the evening you may enjoy an evening surf or swim.

Day 4:  Bude to Bodmin (38 miles)

You cycle alongside the dramatic North Cornwall coastline, before entering Bodmin Moor, an area of outstanding natural beauty.  You descend from the moor, picking up the traffic free Camel Trail, following the Camel River towards the thriving old town of Bodmin.  In the evening you may visit Bodmin’s Steam Railway.

Day 5:  Bodmin to Mevagissey, & Eden project (21 miles)

Today is a shorter ride, making time for a visit the World renowned Eden Project, where you will enjoy a reduced entry fee having arrived by bike.  We would recommend spending a few hours exploring the self contained biomes, each with its own temperate micro-climate planted with endemic species.

You’ll then cycle through St. Austell, an ancient mining town, which is nowadays famous for its brewery.  Then on to Mevagissey, a traditional Cornish fishing village.  You can spend the evening wandering the narrow streets, with pubs and restaurants surrounding the harbour.

Day 6:  Mevagissey to Penzance (52 miles)

You cycle along quiet lanes, not straying far from the South Coast.  You will pass Portloe, an unspoilt, traditional fishing village, considered to be one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall.  You cross Carrick Roads, a sea inlet, on the King Harry ferry.  You will pass Trelissick Gardens, then have the choice to visit the centre of Truro.

You will then continue on to the old towns of Redruth and Camborne, where you may take a rest in a traditional pub or cafe.  Here there is a cycle path using an old disused mining tramway, there is also an industrial museum.  Approaching Penzance you will enjoy the majestic view of St Michael’s Mount, a Church and medieval castle situated on a small island.  If the tide is out it is possible to walk along the causeway to the island, otherwise a ferry service operates.

Day 7: Penzance to Lands End and back to Penzance (29 miles)

The final days cycling takes you to Land’s End, England’s most Westerly point.  On the way you will pass the tiny, charming fishing village of Mousehole, which has a quaint harbour and beautiful small beach.  Then onto Lamorna, another small fishing village, before cycling to Lands End, an iconic landmark, and a great finishing point for any journey.  After taking a photo by the famous signpost, you pedal back to Penzance, for your final night’s accommodation.

Day 8:  Breakfast at Penzance, then leave.
